Real Science. Real Dogs. Real People. A Whole Lot of Heart.
Every dog has a story written in their DNA
Let’s find out what’s hiding in yours.
MuttMix has a long history in South Africa, helping dog lovers discover more about the incredible mixed-breed dogs they share their lives with.
Today, MuttMix has a new chapter, a big heart and one very fluffy face at the centre of it all. 🐾
Through our canine DNA testing kits, we help uncover the fascinating breed ancestry behind every unique mixed-breed dog, while our Sensitivity & Intolerance Test offers additional insights into potential food and environmental sensitivities, helping dog parents make more informed choices about their furry companions.
We believe every mixed-breed dog has a story worth discovering — a one-of-a-kind combination of breeds, traits and history that makes them wonderfully, unmistakably them.
Because to us, it’s never just about what’s in their DNA. It’s about understanding, caring for and celebrating the dog you love just a little bit more. 💙💚
Science With A Heart
The science is serious. The experience doesn’t have to feel clinical.
Every mixed-breed dog carries a unique genetic story, passed down through generations.
Using advanced genetic analysis, variations in your dog’s DNA are examined and compared against a reference database representing more than 350 dog breeds. Sophisticated laboratory technology helps identify ancestral breed contributions, revealing the fascinating genetic mix behind your one-of-a-kind companion.
DNA is science, but the sample belongs to somebody’s much-loved dog. MuttMix combines laboratory analysis with a personal experience.

Meet Shadow 🐾
From sleeping beneath buses to becoming MuttMix’s Chief Canine Officer.
Once a forgotten dog surviving on a property in Airport Industria, Cape Town, Shadow spent his nights sleeping beneath buses, without a warm bed or a family to call his own.
Then two humans saw something special in him, and his world changed forever.
Today, Shadow is a much-loved family member, professional squeaky-ball enthusiast and the fluffy face behind MuttMix.
His past shaped his story, but love gave him a whole new chapter. 💙💚
The Shadow Project 🐾
Bringing Dogs Out of the Shadows and Into the Light.
Inspired by Shadow’s journey, The Shadow Project shines a light on long-stay shelter dogs still waiting for their forever families.
Through sponsored DNA testing, donations of food and essential supplies, financial contributions where possible, and partnerships with animal rescues, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of dogs who need it most.
But it’s about more than donations. It’s about giving overlooked dogs a voice, sharing their stories and helping potential adopters see the incredible companions waiting behind the kennel walls.
Because behind every kennel number is a heart, a story and a dog waiting for someone to say, “You’re coming home.” 💙💚
