Knowing the breeds present in your mixed breed dog is a wonderful experience – it’s a pedigree of a different kind!
The common breeds have all been bred for specific behaviours and looks. Once you know the breeds in your mutt, you’ll be able to pick out some of the distinctive characteristics of those breeds in your best friend. This can help you choose the right nutrition, pick the right exercises and train your dog better. Unfortunately, years of targeted breeding have also introduced breed-specific healthcare issues such as hip dysplasia. MuttMix will alert you to the types of health risks for your mutt’s ancestors so you can better manage your dog’s health.
We get a lot of questions about the Africanis. The Africanis isn’t actually a breed, but a “landrace” of dogs, which has developed over many years of interbreeding. DNA testing can’t tell you your dog is an Africanis, but it can tell you a little about some of the ancestor breeds.
Below is the list of breeds that we can currently detect in mutts – click on the names to find out more about them. We’re constantly working to add more breeds to the database.
