The Gordon Setter was initially bred as a bird hunting dog that would “set”, or quietly lie in wait, upon locating prey. The largest of the setter breeds, the Gordon Setter is believed to contain a mix of English Setter, Bloodhound, Black & Tan Collies, as well as various Pointer and Setter breeds. Their thick double coats allowed this hardy breed to work in the harsh, wet terrain and frigid temperatures of Northern Scotland.
