The Dutch Shepherd is a relatively new breed that shares a striking resemblance to its close relatives the German and Belgian Shepherds. While their lineage is incredibly close and they only recently diverged to form their own breed, the Dutch Shepherd is quite rare in comparison to its relatives but retains all of their desirable traits. Originally bred to herd and protect livestock, today the Dutch Shepherd can be found in the fields of law enforcement, security, scent-detection, and even as service and therapy dogs.
