The Portuguese Podengo is an ancient hunting breed native to Portugal, known for its versatility, athleticism, and independent nature. Also known as Portuguese Rabbit Hounds, Portuguese Sighthounds, or simply as “Pods”, they can be found in three sizes, Pequeno, medio, and grande, and may have either smooth or coarse coats. They are skilled hunters with a strong prey drive. They were traditionally used for hunting a variety of game, including rabbits, birds, and even wild boar. Their agility, speed, and endurance make them well-suited for hunting in different terrains.
