The Swedish Lapphund, also known as the Lapponian Herder, is a versatile and intelligent breed originating from the indigenous Sami people for reindeer herding. Their thick double coats, well-muscled frame, and heavily insulated ears and paws allowed this hardy breed to work in the harshest, coldest conditions without fail. Their straight, medium-length coats can be found in black, sable, wolf sable, cream, and brown. A rare breed, there are only approximately 1,200 Lapphunds in existence today.
